In 2014 we opened the farm shop within the cafe & restaurant, selling our home-bred Aberdeen Angus beef and Jacob lamb, artisan bread from Chesters bakery, home-made and locally made jams/chutneys, locally made soaps as well as a variety of art, souvenirs and all things Swallows & Amazons.
We have decided to stock environmentally friendly and ethically made products with the hope of promoting a sustainable future for us all. There are so many beautiful handcrafted alternatives to plastic and disposable products these days, however by their nature they are not readily available nor are many of us aware that they exist. FMCG companies are generally not interested in pushing products that reduce their sales capabilities and hence inevitably stick with the less environmentally friendly options that means they get repeat buying patterns.
Making the leap to non-disposal of course comes with an initial price tag but inevitably they are reusable and you will get years of enjoyment out of them.
Part of doing our bit for the environment has been stepping away from plastic products and wrapping.
Our second mission has to been to select British made and where that is not possible, then at the very least designed here in Britain.
This has been key in selecting products for our farm shop but also in how we wrap them, please see our packaging page.
