Play on Land

Located in the centre of the Southern Lakes, the farm is ideally situated for people to do endless activities right from the door step. From challenging hikes and gentle walks, to some of the best mountain biking in the country (Grizedale Forest), not to mention Coniston Water offering water sports from open water swimming and paddle boarding to rowing and kayaking - all accessible from the farm.

Nestled next to the lake and the forest, we're halfway between the Lake District Villages of Coniston and Hawkshead and we're lucky to have a footpath really close so grab your OL6 and OL7!

Bank Ground Farm is a wonderful place where you can relax and unwind, enjoying the setting or have an action packed time walking, mountain biking, swimming, climbing and boating.

Within minutes of walking out of the front door you can be on officially marked public footpaths and off on your way to explore the Lake District National Park. Grizedale forest, Coniston Old Man, the Coppermines Valley, Dow Crag and Tarn hows are all within 3 miles, and the Langdale Valley and serious walking country are a 10-15 minute drive away.

For athletes visiting the area, there are numerous events including Coniston 14 (marathon around the lake), Lakeland trails and the Keswick to Barrow walk (40 miles).

Cycling is a great way to explore the Lake District, whether you are keen to tour by road or get muddy in Grizedale Forest.

We have plenty of secure bike storage and a hose! We are more than happy to accommodate cycling groups. If you would rather not travel with your bike then we have mountain bikes available to hire.

Bank Ground Farm is an excellent base from which to start your biking adventure, there are miles of bridleways nearby to get you off the beaten track. Grizedale Forest starts just at the top of our lane and is renowned for having some of the best mountain biking in the UK.

All of our bikes have a full service between each hire and we provide cycle helmets and puncture repair kits. Additionally, we can provide you with information on good local rides and a packed lunch should you want to stop for a little picnic to keep the energy levels up!
